Welcome to Tarot Original 1909 by Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith. This is the most well-known tarot deck of the 20th century and the first to be mass-produced. This edition has been reproduced as the deck was first released in December 1909. The box includes a full-color book by tarot expert Sasha Graham, who interprets the spiritual and psychological meaning of the images based on Waite's original explanations.
Occultist Arthur Edward Waite and artist Pamela Colman Smith belonged to the esoteric society The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where tarot was part of their spiritual activities. The symbolism and occult influences in the 1909 tarot deck are inspired by the Freemasons, alchemy, the Rosicrucians, Egyptian iconography, the Hebrew Kabbalah, the Tree of Life, Christian symbolism, and older, historical tarot decks.
Waite and Smith's tarot deck is considered to have laid the foundation for modern tarot and has inspired most of today's tarot creators. Based on Smith's easily accessible images and Waite's pedagogical explanations, knowledge of tarot became openly available for the first time, making it possible for everyone to engage in intuitive card reading.
THE BOX CONTAINS:
• Deck with 78 full-color tarot cards, size 66x120 mm, and accompanying booklet
