Sony's much-loved controller undergoes a transformation for PlayStation 4 as the Dualshock 3 evolves into the Dualshock 4. With a similar design to the popular wireless controller for PlayStation 3 (DUALSHOCK 3), the DUALSHOCK 4 features new innovations to deliver better gaming experiences.
The DUALSHOCK 4 has a new, highly sensitive six-axis sensor, as well as a touch pad placed on the front of the controller, giving players completely new ways to play and interact with games. The DUALSHOCK 4 has a light bar on top with three colored LEDs that light up in different colors.
The light bar lights up to match the color of characters in a game to offer a simpler, friendlier way to identify players, even when playing side by side.
The light bar also changes patterns during gameplay to provide useful information to players, such as when a character has critically low health or has taken significant damage. In addition, the DUALSHOCK 4 comes with a built-in speaker and a stereo headphone jack, allowing PS4 users to enjoy high-definition sound effects from games both from the TV and from the controller.
Combined with the Mono Headset that will be included with the PS4, players will also be able to chat with friends playing online, while hearing sound effects from the controller in their hand. While the SELECT and START buttons on the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller are integrated into a new OPTIONS button, the DUALSHOCK 4 is newly equipped with a SHARE button to further enhance the PS4's social features.
The SHARE button allows players to easily broadcast their gameplay in real-time to friends via internet streaming services like Ustream.
Users can also share their triumphs and achievements by uploading video games to Facebook with the SHARE button.
