If you grew up in a small town in Ostrobothnia in the 1960s, with the sea as your neighbor, fish in various forms was a natural dish on the dinner table. If you lived in Kaskinen, it was often your own catch that you prepared. That's exactly how it was in my family. Dad and I laid out nets, emptied them, and cleaned the fish, and mom prepared the catch according to the recipes she had inherited from previous generations.
Cooking a shared interest in the family
As an adult, cooking has been a great interest, and especially my husband and youngest son have shared this interest with me. We have used the recipes we inherited from our parents but have also dared to add new flavors and ingredients. When new kitchen appliances have come onto the market, we have gladly tested them to find new ways to prepare ingredients. Also, during our many trips abroad, food experiences have been an important element, and they have also influenced our cooking.

Inspire others to prepare fish

Today, the ingredient fish is used by professional chefs and food-interested public in many new and exciting ways. Fish is an excellent source of protein from a sustainability perspective, and regarding our health, the recommendation is that we should eat fish every week. Still, I feel that many are afraid to cook and experiment with fish and that there is uncertainty regarding the handling of the ingredient.
But it doesn't have to be difficult or complicated to prepare fish at all. When the idea of collecting my family's best fish recipes in a cookbook was born, I also wanted to pass on different ways to handle the ingredient fish, both what I learned from older generations and what I myself learned during all the hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients, recipes, and personal reflections

In the cookbook \"Fisk by Lotta,\" the reader gets to look into my kitchen and follow me in my cooking. I also share personal thoughts about various food experiences and want to show how you can easily prepare delicious and beautiful fish dishes.
The reader gets suggestions on what to have in the pantry and fridge when you want to prepare fish, and there is also an index you can use if you suddenly have a perch or some other fish and don't know what to do with it.
\"Fisk by Lotta\" contains old traditional fish recipes from Ostrobothnia and recipes with new thinking and influences from other countries. The recipes guide the reader to easily prepare fish for both everyday and festive occasions.

During my cookbook project, I have collaborated with talented female Ostrobothnian entrepreneurs. The photos produced by photographer Ann-Britt Pada and the graphic layout by graphic designer Petra Lapveteläinen have resulted in a cookbook that matches the vision I initially dreamed of realizing.
