The keys have a chip inside. However, the chip you will receive is a 48 chip; the key must be matched to the engine computer to start the car, so you must ask a local locksmith to do this. This ignition lock comes with 2 keys. The chip is initialized. To solve this problem, you can: Have a local locksmith copy the key to the lock you ordered, but ask them to program the chip to match the one in your old key. If you do not have the old key, a locksmith can connect a small machine to the OBD2 port of the vehicle and program the car to work with the key that came with the lock.
