It is with joy and pride that the Scandinavian Foundation for Education presents a new Swedish translation of the meaning of the Noble Quran. This edition in thirty parts contains, in addition to the translation, also clarifying commentaries. The Noble Quran is the holy book of Muslims and contains guidance, directives and principles. These are universal across time and space, but their specific application in a given situation is based on knowledge and statements from the learned. This applies especially to societal rules such as criminal justice and the like, which may only be applied by the competent judiciary. Therefore, it is important to turn to the learned and organizations that have experience and knowledge of the Quran in Sweden. In addition, Islam urges its followers to obey the law of the country they live in. This applies in this case to our country Sweden. It is in light of this that a Muslim must take personal responsibility to be able to practice their faith and live by the Quran as best as possible. This translation aims to promote knowledge, dialogue and coexistence leading to increased trust, security and mutual understanding in Sweden. The need for a Swedish translation of the Quran is also obvious since many Swedish Muslims only partially, or not at all, master Arabic. However, translating the Quran is a difficult art as it is a text written over a thousand years ago in another language that has many more nuances and speech styles. Despite this, there are several previous translations of the Quran, both in its entirety and in parts. The first complete published translation into Swedish was made by Johan Fredrik Sebastian Crusenstolpe and was published in 1843. In 1917, K. V. Zetterstéen's translation was published, which for a long time was the most widespread Swedish interpretation. In 1961, Åke Ohlmark's translation of parts of the Quran was published. A new translation of the Quran with commentaries is published under the name Koranens budskap (The Message of the Quran) by former diplomat Muhammed Knut Bernström, 1998. Since then, there has been a need for a more literal translation where each word can be matched for another word.
