This smart candle snuffer works completely automatically, but it is important that you install it correctly. You place the holder on the candle by threading it over the candle with the lid fully open. The lid should thus stick out from the candle (not follow along the candle). When the candle has burned down to the level where you placed the candle snuffer, the lid closes and the candle is extinguished.
